Valerian has been used for hysterical conditions, hyperstimulation, insomnia, migraine, cramps, intestinal colics, rheumatic pains, dysmenorrhea, nervous conditions. Its primary uses are for sedative and hypnotic purposes, while it is also used as an antispasmodic and sedative. It is also recommended for anxiety and neurological sleep disorders. Valerian is used as a sedative even during the day in cases of tension.

The dried root should be taken in doses not exceeding 10g daily. Therapists recommend preparing an infusion of 2-3g three times a day for cases of nervous disorders or a cup (2-3g) approximately one hour before sleep in cases of insomnia.
