Shea Butter comes from the processing of the fruits of the Vitellaria Paradoxa tree, found in West and Central Africa. The tree begins to bear fruit, resembling large plums, when it reaches 10-15 years of age. Shea Butter appears to have been known since ancient Egypt, as there are texts referring to its transportation by caravans. Its name comes from the Senegalese word ghariti, describing the tree, which was translated into French as 'karité.' Shea Butter consists of 5 plant-derived fatty acids, with stearic and oleic fatty acids representing 85-90% of its composition. Its high content of plant-derived fats gives Shea Butter amazing moisturizing properties. Its use increases skin elasticity and helps maintain natural hydration. Shea Butter is particularly rich in phenolic compounds, which have strong antioxidant action. Of the 10 phenolic compounds in Shea Butter, 7 are catechins, also found in Green Tea. Catechins are believed to enhance the skin's defense against external factors such as pollution and sun exposure, while also acting as anti-aging agents by combating free radicals. The Vitamin E and A in Shea Butter have antimicrobial properties and are valuable allies in treating irritations, infections, and eczema.
