Side Effects
Hyssop has emmenagogue and abortifacient effects and should not be used by pregnant or lactating women. The herb, particularly in the form of essential oils, has been incriminated for convulsions. In studies, rats that received high doses of essential oils in injectable form experienced generalized seizures with convulsions and death.
The neurotoxicity of hyssop appears to be related to the terpenes it contains. Patients with epilepsy should not use the herb.
