Helps in the treatment of laryngitis and flu virus, due to its antibacterial action. It tones and cleanses the eyes, soothes eyelid inflammations. Acts as expectorant, emollient, tonic for the lungs, mild diuretic, mild sedative, and healing. Considered a specific remedy for bronchitis when there is intense cough with throat irritation.

Its anti-inflammatory and emollient properties make the herb effective in cases of tracheitis and similar conditions. It acts positively on diseases of the digestive tract and urinary tract.

For external use, an infusion in olive oil is excellent for soothing and healing any inflamed area on the skin's surface. The decoction of the leaves helps in external washes for diarrhea, dysentery, burns, itching, or eczema, while the same decoction is cleansing and astringent. It tones and cleanses the eyes, soothes eyelid inflammations. It is used in homeopathy for the same reasons mentioned above, as well as for children who continue to experience nocturnal enuresis as they grow.

In Crete, the herb is called "melissanthroo". Locals said about the plant that "Melissanthroo is crying" because the plant has the property of throwing its flowers in 30 to 60 seconds when you hit the stem with a small stick. Children would tap the plant saying, "Melissanthroo, Melissanthroo, your poor husband was killed and your children were taken and you wear the yellow ones, take off the poor thing." In India, Verbascum is considered the most powerful protection against evil spirits and magic, and is hung above doors, in windows, and carried in sachets. It is also used to banish demons and negativity.

Dosage: Approximately 1 - 2 teaspoons of dried Verbascum in a cup of hot water for 7 - 10 minutes can be used to treat cough, circulatory congestion, or diarrhea. Drink two to three cups of hot Verbascum daily until symptoms disappear, or refrigerate the tea to use it for hemorrhoid treatment.
