Essential oil - Basil 10ml

Basil, scientific name Ocimum basilicum is an annual, ornamental plant of the Heilant family with a height exceeding 70cm. Its place of origin is considered to be the tropical and subtropical zones of Africa and Asia, with India as the first center of spread.

It is a plant known since ancient times. There are reports confirming its use by Chinese healers and Ayurvedic medicine in India, and also by the Greek physician Dioscorides.

Basil essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of its leaves. It has a pale yellow color and a fresh, sweet and slightly spicy smell. Its most important aromatic compounds are estragole, linoleum, camphor and tannins, while its composition also contains a large percentage of methyl-chavicol ether (about 80%), a substance that gives the essential oil its virtues. Scientific studies have shown that Basil essential oil has strong antioxidant, antiviral and antimicrobial properties.

It is ideal for treating colds, flu symptoms and coughs, while it is the first choice for relieving mental fatigue, lethargy, stress and depression. In addition, it is considered an excellent antispasmodic, therefore it is used in massage oils, for muscle pain, cramps and period pain. Finally, it is one of the most ideal ethers for diffusion devices. It beneficially freshens the atmosphere, repels insects and is believed to attract good luck.

Basil essential oil combines very well with: Bergamot, , Clove, Lime, Eucalyptus, Juniper, Lemon, Neroli, Rosemary.
