-Mastiha is considered an excellent remedy for stomach problems-it can be used as a decongestant and anti-cough-for the treatment of diarrhea-it is estimated to be effective in ulcer healing, the treatment of oral ulcers (canker sores), and other skin illnesses-it helps maintain tooth whiteness and fresh breath-it can fight many pathogenic bacteria such as Escherichia Coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Porphyromonas gingivalis, as well as fungi such as various strains of Candida-it has excellent antibacterial and antioxidant properties-it acts preventatively and possibly therapeutically against tooth decay-its antimicrobial action contributes to neutralizing microorganisms that cause the formation of dental plaque and bad breath-it presents activity against Helicobacter pylori-it has a protective effect on the heart and blood vessels, reduces total cholesterol levels, LDL (bad) cholesterol, lipoprotein a, while also universally protecting LDL cholesterol from oxidation (responsible for creating atherosclerotic plaques in blood vessels). Even the saliva produced from chewing Chios mastiha has been shown to laboratory-inhibit the oxidation of 'bad' cholesterol-it may have anticancer properties against various forms of malignancies, such as prostate, colon, lung, mouth, and pancreatic cancer-it helps in the regeneration of the skin

At the meeting of the Committee for Herbal Medicinal Products (HMPC) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) held in London, it was unanimously decided and accepted in the category of traditional plant medicines, the pharmacopoeia of Chios Mastiha, with two therapeutic indications:

1. Digestive problems

2. skin inflammations and the healing of skin wounds

With the completion of the approval process, Chios Mastiha is recognized as a medicinal product within the European Union as well as in countries outside of it that follow European pharmacopoeias. The result of registration is the possibility of marketing mastiha products throughout Europe with health claims approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA).

Preparation - Dosage

For gastrointestinal problems

In half a liter of water, add 2-3 medium-sized pieces of mastiha. Leave it overnight and the next day, drink until the water runs out. The pieces of mastiha can be chewed throughout the day. This mastiha water is very useful for the stomach and intestines.

Recipe for stomach ulcers

Drink every morning 1/2 tsp of mastiha powder with 1/2 glass of water for 3 months or more, if needed.

Mouthwash for rinsing

Make an infusion by adding 1 tsp of calendula flowers into a cup of boiling water. Cover and let it sit for 15 minutes. Strain it and let it cool slightly. Add 10-12 drops of mastiha oil and rinse to protect your oral health.

Chewing mastiha like gum

To maintain good dental, gum, and oral health in general, it is customary to chew mastiha pieces.
