Properties and indications of Brionia

It is cleansing, cholagogue, diuretic, and healing.

It is used in intestinal atony, constipation, edema, rheumatism, gout, to tone the function of the liver, gallbladder, and bile ducts, and has antiemetic properties.

It is suitable for the treatment of jaundice and dropsy.

It has antiparasitic properties.

It is suitable for leprosy and psoriasis, where plasters made from melted fruits are used.

It is analgesic and dissolving, and is used in rubs for arthritis, rheumatic pains, sciatica, hematomas, pleurisy, and hemorrhoids.

It is good for facial freckles in external use and heals sunburns.

In homeopathy, it is used diluted in bronchopneumonia, pleurisy, rheumatic, arthritic conditions, for intestinal colic and constipation, as well as for epilepsy.

The starch of the root is used to make bread.

The tender shoots are boiled in salads or fried in a pan with onions, and used in omelets.

Great recipes can be made with the shoots.

-Decoction

Boil 10 grams of dry finely chopped root in 1 liter of water for 10 minutes, let it to 3/4, filter, and drink 1 small cup of coffee 3 times a day, before meals. This decoction is suitable for the liver and intestine. Also, it is diuretic and emmenagogue.

-Decoction with vinegar

-Wine

-Syrup

Take fresh Brionia root, scrape it, fill it with black sugar, and let it infuse for 12 hours. 2 tablespoons a day fight constipation.

External use

External use may cause skin irritation.

-Oil

Boil a tablespoon of fresh root in 2 cups of oil, let it cool, and strain. Use this for massage on areas affected by cold and lumbago.

-Oil balm

You can also leave 200 grams of grated root in half a liter of raki and half a liter of olive oil for 20 days, filter, and use it for rubs.

-Fresh root

In rheumatism and arthritis, cut fresh Brionia root and massage it into arthritic and rheumatic areas, and its action is immediate. Massage morning and evening. Massages on the scalp tone the hair, and it is better to use the leaves, fresh plant juice, and Brionia fruits together in this case. Also, melted or fresh root helps as a plaster for bruises, hematomas, and arthritis.

If mixed with bread crumbs, it is suitable for pleurisy and neuralgia.
