Therapeutic actions
- The root and seeds of the plant act as antispasmodic, aromatic, carminative, diaphoretic, diuretic, emmenagogue, expectorant, stimulant, stomachic, tonic.
- It is used against colic, colds, fevers, and poisoning.
- In general, it acts against all phenomena of gastrointestinal atony and nervous headaches.
- In the form of poultice, it is used in rheumatism, arthritis, and skin disorders.
- It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties.
- Angelica essential oil, extracted from the root, has tonic and strengthening properties.
- The plant decoction is used for the treatment of bronchial asthma, catarrh, cough, and indigestion.
- The leaves can be used as poultices for chest inflammations.
- The leaves are also used in plasters, for cases of boils (however, when the plant dries up, the leaves lose their usefulness for plasters).
Preparation - Dosage
- Decoction: Pour 1 tsp of chopped root into a cup of water, boil it, then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 2 minutes. Remove it from the heat and let it sit for 15 minutes. Drink 1 cup three times a day.
- Tincture: 2-5 ml of tincture three times a day.
- In powder form of the root, use twice a day, in a quantity of a pinch, with the same amount of water.
Not suitable for pregnant women and diabetics.
When making poultices, the skin becomes photosensitive and needs attention.
